Gap Fact Problem

Something else here that is ignored is that there is not a single verse the Gap Fact quotes in the bible lists any sort of herb, plant or tree life on the earth before day 3 of creation.

And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Genesis 2:9

Also, you couldn’t say that the tree was just a symbol of evil until fruit had been taken from it. That would be absolutely wrong. Also, when reading Ezekiel chapter 28 it
is quite obvious that no earthly king of Tyrus was in Eden, as was this angel, nor does this Eden refer to Adams Eden, although Lucifer was in it also (Gen. 3; 2 Cor. 11:3).
Concerning the different gardens in the Bible, Wilmington’s Guide to the Bible (Tyndale House Publishers, Inc) page 885, reads thus –

“The garden of God (Ezek. 28:11-17).
a. Was the home of Lucifer before he became Satan.
b. Had stones of fire.
c. Was headquarters for God’s holy mountain.
d. Witnessed sin enter the universe.

The Garden of Eden (Gen. 2:8-3:24)
a. Was the home of the first man.
b. Was located in Mesopotamia to the east.
c. Had all sorts of beautiful trees, including
(1) The tree of life.
(2) The tree of the knowledge of good and evil.
d. Was watered by four rivers.
e. Witness sin enter the human race.”

Wilmington recognizes the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2:8-3:24 as DISTINCT from
the Garden of God.

So when you read the above page you’ll notice he doesn’t further try explain Dr. Wilmington’s distinction to backup his ‘finding‘ that “nor does the Eden refer to Adams Eden“. He also gives no additional verses in the bible to support Dr. Wilmington’s distinction. His ONLY source of truth is from a commentary published by Tyndale House Publishers, He quotes Dr. Harold Wilmington (Liberty University) from page 885 and then has a single statement for why this Garden of Eden in Ezekiel is not the same as Adam’s Garden of Eden in Genesis:

“Wilmington recognizes the Garden of Eden in Genesis 2:8-3:24 as DISTINCT from the Garden of God.”

Perry Demopoulos – The Gap Fact – Page 43

This one was rather shocking to me. If you read his whole book “The Gap Fact”, you will see that he is very anti-commentary and berates other Christians (creationists) that use commentaries and not go to scripture as their only source of truth. Here read from page 6 of the same book from Demopoulos:

While creationists (that’s how we’ll identify them) claim the ‘scientific’ (1 Tim.6:20) approach to prove creation against evolution (which is commendable) they’ve taken a very UNSCIENTIFIC (or more appropriately an EVOLUTIONISTIC) approach as to their method of Biblical interpretation when OUTSIDE resources are used for their ‘findings.’ Some use a dictionary or Hebrew or Greek lexicons to DISprove a word from the King James Bible. We are not going to refer to any Hebrew and Greek manuscripts for our final authority of interpretation.

We are not going to refer to Webster’s dictionary (as Kent Hovind does) lexicons, (as students of the Greek language do) or commentaries for the plain, simple interpretation of the scriptures. We are going to go to the scriptures themselves and allow God, the Creator of the heavens and the earth to speak for Himself. He is a real Man (John 19:5). He is very capable of speaking for Himself, just let Him do it. Just give Him the time and with a little bit of patience you will see what He was trying to get through to YOU.

Since Brother Demopoulos is a trusted major authority on “The Gap Fact” and seems to whole heartily agree with the Wilmington Commentary, Lets examine Wilmington’s assertions and see if they have validity and are in agreement with the Bible?

1. “Dr Wilington’s Assertions:
   • The garden of God (Ezek. 28:11-17).
     • b. Had stones of fire.
       c. Was headquarters for God’s holy mountain.
2. Key Verse for Wilmington’s Belief
   • Ezekiel 28:14 KJV – Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.
3. Holy Mountain of God and the Stones of Fire Location
   • If you read the passage closely it NEVER says the holy mountain of God or the stones of fire were actually in the Garden of God,
     • It simply says thou wast upon and thou walked in the midst
   • The actual Location is in the 3rd Heaven
     • In the Bible we see stones of fire in the 3rd Heaven near God’s throne:
       • Isaiah 6:1 KJV – 1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
       • Isaiah 6:6 KJV – 6 Then flew one of the seraphims unto me, having a live coal in his hand, [which] he had taken with the tongs from off the altar:
4. The Same Mountain of God and Stones of Fire Still Exists today
   • Furthermore this Holy Mountain per the Gap Fact was destroyed in a flood, but if you look at verse Eze 28:16 it still exists today!
     • Ezekiel 28:16 – By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.
   • Notice the “I will” statements from God to Satan. These are future.
     • The following phrases make total sense when you consider that Lucifer/Satan did and still can come and go from the Holy Mountain of God where there are stones of fire.
       • “Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; “- Eze 28:13
       • “thou wast upon the holy mountain of God – Eze 28:14
       • I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God – Eze 28:16
       • Notice the bible says when this casting will happen in revelation.
         • Revelation 12:8-9 8 And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. 9 And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
         • Isaiah 14:15-16 15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit. 16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, [and] consider thee, [saying, Is] this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
     • Satan’s previous and current access
       • Satan has not been cast out of heaven yet. He still has access.
         • Job 1:6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.
         • Job 1:7 And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.
5. Notice also that the Gap Fact says this was Satan’s first throne but that is contradictory to what the bible says in Isaiah.
   • •Isaiah 14:13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
     • Now notice Satan didn’t think of exalting his earthly throne UNTIL there were already stars which were not created until day 4.
     • This cannot be a separate throne before Day 4 of creation.
6. Michael Pearls view on a prior earth with prior stars.
   • If you watch this video from Michael Pearl where he physically paints and discusses “two creations”. He subtly paints and implies there were stars before day 4 of creation. This is a totally private interpretation and he gives zero Bible verses. He is clearly a talented painter and paints a picture of his view of a “first creation” without any scripture to backup his painting. There simply are no stars in the Bible before day 4 of creation for example.

1. Gen 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed
   • God never planted a garden (Garden of God) until AFTER he had formed man.
   • He then gave Adam Dominion of the garden
   • It doesn’t say God placed Lucifer there after he created it, it doesn’t ever say lucifer was in charge of it. Eze 28:13 just says he had been there.
