When Were the Foundations of the Earth Laid?
The Foundations are laid in the Firmament
So now we get to the final question, When?
- Not surprisingly if you study the Bible, we see it actually give us some very explicit answers to this question.
- Our first clue was found in the previous question of Where? The answer was the firmament which was not created until day 2 of biblical creation.
- God separated (stretched) the waters from the waters and created the firmament of outer space where the earth hangs on nothing via gravity.
- If God Laid the foundations beneath the earth in the firmament then this could not have happened until day 2 after the Heavens were stretched and room was made for the earth to hang on nothing (Gravity).
Genesis 1:6-8 KJV – 6 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which [were] under the firmament from the waters which [were] above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.
Scripture Interprets Scripture
- Now we get to the interesting part, in that God actually tells us MULTIPLE times in scripture this was the order of creation including the Foundations of the Earth.
- There are 3 Verses with the Identical Phrase – “laid the foundations of the earth”: Job 38:4, Psalm 104:5 and Isaiah 51:13
- Job 38:4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.
- Psalms 104:2-5
2 Who coverest [thyself] with light as [with] a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain:
3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot: who walketh upon the wings of the wind:
4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire:
5 [Who] laid the foundations of the earth, [that] it should not be removed for ever. - Isaiah 51:13 And forgettest the LORD thy maker, that hath stretched forth the heavens, and laid the foundations of the earth; and hast feared continually every day because of the fury of the oppressor, as if he were ready to destroy? and where [is] the fury of the oppressor?
- There are 2 other verses using the same word with a slight variation – layeth and lay.
- Zec 12:1 The burden of the word of the LORD for Israel, saith the LORD, which stretcheth forth the heavens, and layeth the foundation of the earth, and formeth the spirit of man within him.
- Isaiah 51:16 And I have put my words in thy mouth, and I have covered thee in the shadow of mine hand, that I may plant the heavens, and lay the foundations of the earth, and say unto Zion, Thou [art] my people.
Are the Hebrew words the same?
- In case your wondering; YES, the Hebrew Words for the variations of Stretch(est,ed,eth,plant) and Laid (layeth,lay) are all IDENTICAL.
- Stretched is nāṭâ
- Laid is yāsaḏ
Divine Design Details and Order
Now go up and read all the orange text and you will notice something not by accident or coincidence. The heavens (plural) where always stretched BEFORE the the Foundations of the Earth were Laid.
There is order in God’s Creation and he repeats this order many times in scripture with different authors in different books.
1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not [the author] of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.
Hath God Said,
Did God really say 4 separate times that he created (stretched) the heavens (plural) before he laid the foundations of the earth?
Answer = Yes
Implication :
The foundations of the earth (gravity) was not laid until at least day 2 of creation and that is when the sons of god shouted for joy, not in Gen 1:1 or eternity past as some believe. This casts serious doubt on Lucifer being the cause of the Earth in Genesis 1:2 being without form and void. Psalm 104:4 above also implies that the Angels were not even created till day 2.
